I was fumbling around on the internet when I found "A Year of Reading the World." A young woman spent a year reading one book from each nation in the world.
How cool is that? I've read about shamans in Peru and missionaries in the Congo, street families in Kenya and Chinese migrants in California. I've read about English tourists in Nepal and about the life of a Chinese girl who fled her abusive husband, worked for a brothel, and then married an idealistic American. I read a book about Bollywood stars and another about a French chef. I've read the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which is set in Botswana (and is not on the list).
I'm looking at the list. It starts with Afghanistan and lists The Kite Runner, a book I have sitting on my shelf. I'll start with that one.
