Yesterday I took the math and English college placement tests. I was a little offended that I had to take them. I took three Calculus classes...twenty-five years ago...and, really, that should be good enough for anybody. I figured that I had the math part cold. Well, I can tell you that I was absolutely, completely wrong. At some point during the test I actually felt my brain shrivel into a little ball and start whimpering. I prodded it with the next question about logarithmic functions. "Solve it, Brain!" I demanded. Brain peeked at it then closed its eyes tight. "It looks like Sanscrit!" "Okay. Pick a letter. The answer is A, B, C, or D." Brain relaxed enough to look. "A looks pretty. B has more letters. C is the most complicated. D says there's no freakin' way this can be solved by humans. I like that one." That seemed the most reasonable to me, too, so I figured it was wrong. I went with "A." If you gotta judge by looks, go with the pretty one. E- |
