Merry Christmas!

A Christmas message for all of us: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
Rev John Watson
Response from The British Weekly: "No message is more needed in our days of stress and storm, of selfish striving and merciless competition."

This was first published Dec 25, 1897.

Coincidence? Maybe...maybe not.

I planned to drive to Pueblo today to meet with the writers down here. As it happens, some continuing education that I have to have was being offered in Pueblo, so I got here early for it. The training ended early, so I went to the NY Pizza place to get takeaway They have a TV on the wall playing a Samuel L Jackson movie on BET, something I would literally never have seen anyplace else.

So I'm waiting on my pizza and working on my story. My character has to speak at his father's funeral.

Stranger than Fiction

This is an actual story from an actual newspaper, our very ownGazette. I could not make this up, but I kind of wish I had.

ACCRA, GHANA  A fake US embassy that operated for "about a decade" in Ghana's capital issuing counterfeit and fraudulently obtained visas has been shut down, the US State Department announced.
The scam was orchestrated by "Ghanian and Turkish organized crime rings" and a Ghanian attorney, a statement said. Several suspects have been arrested, though others remain at large.

Political but Funny

So here's the latest gaff from a politico: Donald Trump wins Nevada and declares that "I love the poorly educated!"

Twitter explodes in response:

"If only they weren’t too poorly educated to know they’re the poorly educated."

All I’ll say is the moment in the speech I heard Trump say, “I love the poorly educated,” I knew I was hearing history.

“I love the poorly educated!” - Trump
“He loves us!” - Trump supporters

Donald Trump in his Nevada victory speech: “I love the poorly educated.

Random Notes

I often write notes to myself to record interesting things I hear and want to remember. Sadly, I sometimes forget what the note means.

For instance I came across a note while I was cleaning the other day.  It's in my handwriting, and I can only presume that it once meant something to me: "moves his tools" and "play with the hose" and "swimming."

I don't write erotica, so get your mind out of the gutter. I have no idea what it means, but it is kind of interesting to speculate.

Ghost Guns

Last night I watched a Nat Geo show called "Ghost Guns." Ghost guns are untraceable, unlicensed, illegal guns. Many of them are hand-made in the Philippines by artisans who create guns that are, for all intents and purposes, identical to manufactured weapons. The guns are even inscribed with fake numbers and manufacturer marks.
The guns are transported to the United States and purchased by criminals--gangsters, mostly, who use the weapons to rob drug dealers and to commit other crimes.
